Quito Trail by UTMB was a beautiful race and a complete adventure. I ran the Oso 82K distance in 2024. My watch recorded 76 km, a personal measurement that may differ from the official distance. The route from Mindo to Quito passed through different types of forest, included huge river crossings and offered views of the surrounding volcanoes.
The start was difficult to explain even to myself. I do not know whether something I ate the night before disagreed with me, or whether I ate too much at the beginning and started too fast. Around kilometer 10 I vomited, but I recovered and was able to continue.
Later I fell onto my side and my headlamp hit my ribs. They ached for the rest of the race.
The longest stretch between aid stations was also extremely hot. That combination made that section feel especially long. Later, descending into Quito, the route offered a different reward: I saw El Panecillo and the city’s architecture. Moving from forests and rivers to that urban view was one of the most beautiful contrasts of the race.
This is my personal experience of the 2024 Oso 82K. The 76 km reference and the incidents on the course come from my memory and my watch, not from an official event guide.
